POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS:

Ms. Celine Uwinema

Supervisors: Dr. Catherine A. Meriaux, Dr.Antonio Costa and Dr. Silvia Massaro

Celine Uwinema

Her research falls in the domains of physical volcanology, particularly the dynamics of volcanic plumes from Nyiragongo and Nyamuragira in the East African Rift, using numerical models such as FALL3D, DISGAS, and TWODEE to simulate their dispersion and transport.

Mr. Sylvain Barayagwiza

Supervisors: Dr. Catherine A. Meriaux and Dr. Virginie Pinel

Sylvain Barayagwiza

His research focuses on the physics of magma transport and volcanic fracture mechanics, with a special interest in dyke propagation and eruption forecasting in rift-related volcanoes. He is currently investigating magma-induced fracturing evolution during intrusion events by integrating analog laboratory experiments, numerical geophysical modeling, and seismic data analysis to understand how fractures initiate, evolve, and control eruption dynamics—particularly at Nyiragongo Volcano in the East African Rift.

Mr. Sosthène Irambona

Supervisor: Dr. Steve Ndengué

His work falls in the area of condensed matter physics and quantum simulations where he is specifically interested in understanding the photocatalytic splitting of water on the surface of a solid substrate (heterogeneous catalyst) using classical and quantum molecular dynamics simulations.

Mr. Sunday Joseph Ogenyi

Supervisors: Dr Omololu Akin-Ojo and Dr. Nicola Seriani

His research interest is in the area of computational catalysis for renewable energy material.

Ms. Wala Fathelrahman Ibrahim Elsayed

Supervisors: Dr. Steve Ndengué, Dr. Omololu Akin-Ojo and Dr. Nicola Seriani

Her research project concerns an ab-inito attempt to understand the interface properties of the photocatalytic systems, Fe3O4-SiO2 and Fe3O4-TiO2 heterojunction, and how the chemical and physical aspects are affected by the solid-solid reaction. This understanding will allow the optimal utilization of such materials in their applications.

Mr. Murad Ali

Supervisor: Dr. Shoaib Munir

He is interested in Flavor Physics, Dark Matter, Collider Phenomenology in particular the CERN LHC, Supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model and Composite Higgs Models. Currently, he is working on B Physics anomalies and LHC phenomenology for Leptoquarks in UV completed models, i.e. Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E6SSM).
