HECAP Online Seminar: Jeff Murugan
Tuesday, 25 January, at 11:00 GMT+2
ICTP-EAIFR is happy to welcome Jeff Murugan of the University of Cape Town, South Africa, for a HECAP Online Seminar entitled "Anything You Wanted to Know About String Theory." Happening on Tuesday, 25 January, 2022, at 11:00 GMT+2, all are welcome. The Zoom ID is 898 0120 8586 and the passcode is 579591.
Abstract: String theory started off as a way to understand the strong nuclear interactions but has, over the past 50-odd years, evolved into so much more than that - a theory of quantum gravity, a bridge between gauge theory and gravity, a high energy version of quantum field theory and even a seemingly perpetual source of new mathematics. And yet, for all the excitement it generates, it has generated a significant amount of controversy, mostly about its embarrassing lack of experimental predictions. In this dialogue session, I hope to clarify some of these points and answer any other burning questions you might have about string theory’s past, present and (my take on its) future.
